Nightshifters Label Launch!

Our friends DJ Donna Summer & 4AM Jess (Jubilee) have launched their lovely new label, Nightshifters, which we featured a couple of weeks back. We're helping them celebrate this Thursday, the 20th- with a bang! They'll be joined by the already infamous Rob Threezy & big bass bringers Proper Villains @ Le Possoin Rouge, and it's only $5 with RSVP.

While Remix Sunday is still in temporary hibernation, I'm going to do my best to keep you updated. The fantastic Dekker & Johan (featured once already, on RS130) have just sent over a brand new mix they did for The Music - with the added vocal stylings of a familiar vampire with an earnest love for numbers. Only just out of the starting gate, Dekker & Johan have already got a style all their own, both danceable and melancholic, both wiggly and stiff. We're waiting with baited breath for more from these two.

Lulu Rouge

I would be remiss in not telling you all about one of my favorite albums of this year. Lulu Rouge's Bless You - which reminds me of the days when Massive Attack ruled my discman, and Portishead put me to sleep every night. From the same camp as ever-rising superstar Trentemøller (he was originally a member of the group) the two men in Lulu Rouge have a long list of credits to their name. T.O.M. co-produced the Fagget Fairys' first single "Uzela" - and is a former Danish DJ champion. Buda has had his fingers in just about every electronic production that's come out of Denmark in the last 10 years. He was the other man behind that Run Jeremy Bootleg of Aphex Twin's Windowlicker which turned so so many heads-- listing all of their credits would be nearly impossible. Their DJ sets are something to be admired, with only the use of two cd-j's and mixer, they manage to transform every song they play into something totally unrecognizable and new. I've never seen any DJ duo work the knobs better than them.

Lulu Rouge is like an earthquake of subtlety. Both booming and still, simultaneously. Constant build, and constant release. You don't know where the peaks end and the valleys begin.

One half of the already imitated production duo, Yeah! Woho!-- Marcus Rombo has blessed us with a quintessentially Swedish house song. Timing in at 8:49, it manages never to lose me. Superb production from a man quickly gaining ground in an increasingly slippery world.

Merk Meny can deflect Fire

Congratulations are in order for Montreal's Merk Meny (Peer Pressure). Meny has just perfected a cloak that deflects the fire of the Dark Prince's Army of Kentaurs!
Rumor has it that the cloak will available to all warriors as ready-to-wear next fall; this is a huge win for Merk and entire the street fashion industry in their fight against the Kentaurs!
In other Peer Pressure news, Hatchmatik, as previously reported [Palms,09/08], has been working to collect power harder than expected and the seniors are now predicting only seven months until he can cast those level 25 spells!

Blänk is a production duo out of Luleå, in northern Sweden, who are obsessed with sweet synths, Miami, and happy rap. They are about as unpretentious as you can get, and they have a lovely sense of humor. It must be all the cold and snow, and the constant darkness- they need to create contrast. An album is in the works and a few singles are coming very soon with remixes from myself, Kocky, and The Touch. Enjoy their first sugary sweet single "Shirt Off" featuring Young Ivy, and my remix- which is about as dark as I could get to contrast the upbeat and happy original mix.

I remember the first time I heard The Rapture. It was like being slapped in the face while making out. It took me by surpise but was so familiar and felt so right...I needed more! - The Rapture and brainy heartache James Fucking Friedman started Throne of Blood in 2006. They've been responsible for throwing more than a few legendary parties and now they're going to kick their label into action. - The first release is the three track EP, "New Crack Swing" by the crown prince of thug house himself, Dances With White Girls. This marks a new era for Throne of Blood!

A Jaguar is Forever

DJ Rolando's "Jaguar" is one of the greatest pieces of techno ever made...Its about Aztec warriors (link). Every string is a piece of heaven. It's beautiful, and I love it! - Earlier in the year, Sebastien Leger, released his 128 BPM progressive version of the track. It's gotten a lot of criticism for not being able to stand up to the original (or the Jeff Mills remix) and while I do agree with a lot of it, as a stand alone track; Leger made something that makes me feel good, and has worked really well whenever I've played it, and is pretty cool for what it is.

Oh Snap!! ft. Jen Lasher - My Name is Chuck EP

Baltimore's OH SNAP!! got together with Jen Lasher to collaborate on this.
From what I gather, the song is on the surface a juxtapose about a guy who lies to a chick at a club, who's hustling guys for drinks.

But what if the lines by Oh Snap!! went far below that and drew comparisons between the spirituality of Walker Texas Ranger (which ended in 2001) and the later solo music of Joe Strummer (who died in 2002) and Jen Lasher's lines are pointing out that the two are forever linked by the wormhole that is this overanalyzation that you're reading right now and as 2009 approaches, Jen character is looking back and saying that Chuck and Joe did the best they could while they were stuck in this place. Had as much fun as they could while they were stuck in this place. Played as hard as they could while they were stuck in this place. Won as many awards as they could while they were stuck in this place. What if...Ya know?
